CAST ALUMINUM, VARIOUS DIMENSIONS
Not unlike a surrealist collage, through their disparate sizes and scales, the work creates a sense of mental and physical displacement.
Cordials is a series of five cast aluminum sculptures commissioned by the City of Burnaby for the Station Mall. Inspired by the original Monopoly game tokens, the sculptures playfully explore the dynamics of trade and game-playing. The cast of characters for this work includes an octopus, a gentleman Dandy, a dog, a melon and a ladies shoe.
The sculptures act out in front of passers-by a fantastical drama involving gastronomical delights, fashionable clothing, elegantly dressed dandies and the like, turning the plaza at the mall’s busy south entrance, into a board game. The Cordials welcome the public into their own theatrical world of play.
